What exactly does a ripening specialist do?
Sounds pretty unique! What makes this job so special?
The beauty of this job is that you’re responsible for the taste and quality of the fruit people eat. If the ripening process isn’t done correctly, bananas can end up too green or too ripe on the shelves. A proper ripening process ensures the fruit is just right when it reaches the supermarket, and that’s no small thing! Perfectly ripe bananas or mangoes make a big difference in flavor, and a good ripener can make that difference.
Why are good ripeners so important nowadays?
So there aren’t many ripeners left?
A ripener essentially makes the difference between a bland, tasteless fruit and a deliciously juicy mango or sweet banana.
At Coccinelle, you train ripeners yourselves. Why is that important?
Because it’s such a specialized trade, there isn’t much formal training for it. At Coccinelle, we believe the best way to learn this craft is by doing it. We train our ripeners in-house. You’ll learn everything about the ripening process from A to Z. It’s a unique opportunity, as we work with the latest techniques and ensure you gain all the knowledge and experience needed to become a true craftsman or craftswoman.
Why should people become ripeners, according to you?
